Train drivers across England, Scotland and Wales have accepted a pay deal made by the Department for Transport, ending a two-year pay dispute. The employees are members of the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (Aslef) union. They have taken part in strike action since 2022 over pay, arguing that the previous government refused to let the train operating businesses negotiate freely and make a fair offer.

While 93% of employees said work-life balance was critical for good overall wellbeing, 67% do not feel they can fully switch off or keep work-life boundaries, according research by Protime UK. Its report The work-life boundary gap – why it matters and how to fix it , which surveyed 2,000 UK employees, also found that poor work-life balance negatively impacted 41% of employees’ wellbeing on a daily or weekly basis, and 65% on a monthly basis or more.

In spite of all the chatter about the so-called Great Resignation and Quiet Quitting, whether people decide to stay with or leave an employer still largely depends on whether they think they are paid enough. According to a new poll from SD Worx , pay remains the number one reason employees will stay with a company or leave. For the report, SD Worx surveyed 5,000 businesses and 18,000 employees in 18 countries across Europe, including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Belgium.

Its employees will now be able to access a workplace savings account with a 4.7% annual equivalent rate (AER), provided by financial benefits platform Wagestream. The account does not require staff to deposit a fixed amount to benefit from the interest rate, and it is fully protected under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
