The mean gender pay gap has fallen by 0.4% in the past year, from 12.2% in 2022/23 to 11.8% in 2023/24, according to research by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC). The professional services firm found that among UK employers that disclose their hourly gender pay gaps, the median hourly pay gap has decreased from 9.2% in 2022/23 to 9.1% in 2023/24. Since 2017, the mean gender pay gap has fallen by 1.6% from 13.4%.

The London office leasing market kicked off 2024 with a significant downturn, according to a new report from Devono. After a strong end to 2023, leasing activity plummeted by 45 percent in the first quarter, with only 2.3 million sq ft of space leased. This falls short of the 5-year average for Q1 and marks the lowest total since late 2022. The report attributes the decline to a combination of economic factors, including a recent recession and rising inflation.

Football association Fifa has implemented support for its female footballers and coaches during and after pregnancy , and in all types of motherhood as of 1 June. Approved by the Fifa council last month, the changes are applicable to its affiliated associations in 211 countries across the world. Queen’s University Belfast has announced that it will roll out a new pay deal to all of its employees, effective from 1 August. The deal was agreed with trade unions Unite, University and College Union (UCU) and Northern Ireland Public Service Alliance (NIPSA). It will see staff receive a 13% pay increase over three years, a one-off non-consolidated payment dependent on salary, and an additional day’s leave.
