In Holland v. Murray , No. 21-cv-567, 2023 WL 2645708 (D.D.C. Mar. 27, 2023), the court held that financial support provided by Congress to a multiemployer pension plan under the Bipartisan American Miners Act (“BAMA”) did not divest the plan of Article III standing to pursue the withdrawal liability it was owed. After the contributing employer filed for bankruptcy, the plan assessed its controlled group members, the defendants, with $6.5 billion in withdrawal liability.

Global professional services firm Aon has implemented a new carers’ leave policy in order to support its UK employees with caring responsibilities. Launched during Carers Week (5-11 June), the policy offers Aon employees five days of paid leave each calendar year, which can be taken as full or half days, and is in addition to their annual leave. All members of staff who are providing unpaid care for relatives, partners or friends who may be elderly, ill or disabled are eligible for the leave.

A new survey from FlexJobs found that poor work-life balance is the top reason workers say they resign. The survey, which was conducted in June 2023, polled over 1,000 professionals and found that 42% were actively thinking about quitting their job, and another 20% had recently quit. After poor work-life balance, workers most commonly said they were driven to job hunt by low or unfair pay (35%); a toxic culture (34%); and a feeling that they were disrespected or undervalued (33%).
