Approximately two-fifths (42%) of employers plan to reduce flexibility or offer less of this to their employees in 2024, according to research by Barnett Waddingham. The independent consultancy, which surveyed 302 HR directors and C-suite professionals, found that this could see as many as 588,000 employers planning to offer reduced flexibility to working arrangements.

The UK Supreme Court has unanimously ruled that Deliveroo riders do not have the right to be classed as workers and cannot unionise following a seven-year legal battle. In the case of The Independent Workers Union of Great Britain v Central Arbitration Committee and another , Deliveroo riders have been seeking to become recognised as workers and thus have the ability to unionise.
