As previously discussed, the SECURE 2.0 Act of 2022 (“SECURE 2.0”) was signed into law on December 29, 2022 as part of the 2023 Consolidated Appropriations Act, and included a myriad of required and optional plan design changes for retirement plan sponsors and employers (described in more detail here ). After a closer read, several inadvertent errors were identified in the text of SECURE 2.0.

A law that requires California employers to report cases of COVID-19 in their workplace to their workers’ compensation carrier sunsets on Jan. 1, 2024, removing a requirement that many business owners say has become more difficult to comply with in the post-pandemic era. AB 1751 requires “rebuttable presumption” for workers’ comp purposes for COVID-19, meaning that some cases were deemed work-related under certain circumstances, requiring employers to report them to their insurer.

The BBC has reported a 4.7% mean gender pay gap for 2023, just lower than the 5.1% it published in 2022. Its median gap for 2023 was 7.3%, an increase from 5.9% the previous year. The organisation attributed this to its 47% female and 53% male employee split, and specific investments in pay and talent in its technology and product areas, which have higher proportions of male workers.

Tesco Ireland is to give pay rise to its employees as part of a €16 million (£13.7 million) investment. From 1 January 2024, more than 12,000 customer assistants, warehouse operatives and grocery home shopping delivery drivers will receive a minimum 4% increase in their hourly pay. The irvestment means the retailer’s annual pay award will come into effect three months early, with its employees also set to benefit from an additional earnings increment in the region of around 1%.
