One-third (34%) of mothers in England said they are unable to return to work on a full-time basis due to childcare costs or availability, compared to just 12% of fathers, according to new Pregnant Then Screwed and Women In Data research. The former surveyed 35,800 parents in England, and the latter then extracted a nationally representative sample of 5,870 parents to create the 2024 State of the nation childcare report.

Welcome Break reports 6.38% mean gender pay gap for 2023

Motorway service station operator Welcome Break has reported a 6.38% mean gender pay gap for 2023, down from 8.6% in 2022. This is its lowest reported gap since 2018, which is a result of its efforts on managing pay increases and using a ‘compliance by complexity’ model. Meanwhile, its median gap was 1%. Its lowest-paid pay quartile consisted of 586 male and 698 female employees, while its highest pay quartile was made up of 706 male and 578 females.
